We enter the gateway to Upper Mustang, driving through the deepest gorge in the world along the Kali Gandaki Valley, flanked by Mount Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Tilicho. We stop at Marpha, a traditional Thakali village famous for its apple orchards, and visit Thinigaun, Dhumba Lake, and the hilltop Kutsab Terenga Gumba. Today, we officially entered the restricted area of Upper Mustang, crossing the Chhuksang checkpoint to register our special permits. In the morning, drive to the Marzhong Caves to explore the unique Bon religion cave complex, a rare highlight among popular treks in Nepal. After an early lunch in Lo Manthang, we began our return journey southward. Stop to explore the mystical red cliffs and caves of Dakmar Village before arriving in Kalopani by evening, framed by Dhaulagiri and the Damodar range.
We retrace our route back south toward Pokhara. This stretch features a mix of rugged tracks and well-maintained roads, allowing for a comfortable journey. Enjoy a final look at the Himalayan waterfalls and deep canyons before arriving in Pokhara by afternoon. Spend your evening relaxing by the peaceful Phewa Lake.
